my review of Scissor Sisters’ new album Magic Hour

Magic Hour is not a bad album but it is an album of many missed opportunities and generic beats. Who knows, maybe it’s a grower but Scissor Sisters’s standard has been set so ridiculously high since they entered the music scene, the new album has sadly ended up being a bit of a disappointment.

my review of Kris Allen’s new album Thank You Camelia

All of the songs have hit potential, if given chance and the right promotion. Kris’s song-writing and musicianship are actually quite timeless: his ability to capture audience with an acoustic performance harkens back to the art of medieval minstrels and such, the fact he plays the piano and guitar, arguably two of the most commonly played instruments of the past few centuries, is actually a plus. He is an every-man who can write catchy pop songs but who doesn’t need any gimmicks to present them to people. And he has the ability to win over listeners who would not think they’d enjoy all this MOR singer-songwriter-y stuff.

lantern-hearts:

The other day my friend and I watched Thor and she remarked that Loki is unique from other Marvel villains because while you can see in their eyes that they simply ooze pure evilness, Loki’s eyes had this permanently mischievous look in them no matter what kind of nefarious act he was committing, almost as if he didn’t really mean them to be evil but as petty tricks (I know killing Coulson is NOT mischievous). And this is almost a measure of skill because apparently Tom is such a good actor that he can simply compress the character of a person into his eyes. I mean I read somewhere that he could have just portray Loki as a two dimensional villain but he choose to look deeper instead. I threw in Captain Nicholls because he had a 360 character change in Warhorse:D

my review of Haley Reinhart’s debut album Listen Up!

Haley Reinhart’s debut album is a joy to listen to. Simple as that. Review over. (You wish!)

Listen Up! is very sexy, in a sultry, old glamour way. But unlike Lana Del Rey, whose persona is a Greta Garbo on pills, Haley is not pretending to star in a David Lynch film. She’s effortlessly sensual and you can hear it all over the album.

Haley possesses a beautiful voice which has many shades and flavours. From a clear coo to throaty growl. She can belt, and she can whisper. And she sounds like no-one else.
